For God’s sake Jack why now?

Why the Red Poet has to forsake us?
Jack, you’ll say it is the perfect time since
All of us will go some day
Some day like today one must
Leave this place for another one
but not self.
Jack loves words, meaningful words
And for Open Gate at Paul’s house
We had met: accolade!
Accolade Paul Laraque
Accolade Franck Laraque
Accolade Robert Josaphat Large

***

Accolade no! No! No!
Comrade, wi! You’ll say.
Comrade, Jack, I love the fact that
Before you left us cold
You screamed:
“Caro Gary
Fine but I hope one likes the ones in
Osekou
Attacking the UN/USA occupation and
the KKK comes up in you,
And…
Toujou, Jack”
Hm! Hmm! Hmmm!

And for you to call me:
Che Gary!
Hm! Hmm! Hmmm!
“Building Socialism / Fighting Fascism”
…Standing tall
Toujou Jack
Comrade Denizé Lauture
Comrade Max Manigat
Me, Okraland Man
Always

***

Jack your body left us
But your soul and mind are
The stamps on the envelop of love
You cherish us, poets for eternity.
So long comrade!
So long Jack!

—Gary S. Daniel
