At the invitation of the Commission for the Search for a Haitian Solution to the Crisis—CRSC—we, a group of civil society organizations from Haiti and from the diaspora, political parties, groups of political parties, personalities, denounce and repudiate an act which has no other name than that of a coup d’état. This coup was perpetrated during the night of Tuesday July 6 predawn to Wednesday July 7 by local allied with international elements.
This coup d’état in a coup d’état plunges the country into an unparalleled crisis and places Haiti in front of major dangers (strengthening of the dictatorship, foreign occupation, destruction of all the sovereign institutions of our country). The purpose of this coup is to renew and strengthen the traditional system that has created injustice and exclusion.
It was to cover up repression and political crimes that the state of siege was declared, as the basis for the power of the same team that led the country to the catastrophe we are experiencing today. The use of violence in politics must stop! We do not condone any assassination!
We salute the maturity of the population who understands that these events are not in her favor and we ask all to remain vigilant and mobilized so that this coup does not pass.
We ask the national police whose mission is to protect lives and property, to respect the exercise of civil and political rights of the citizens.
We ask the population to keep calm and not to give in to any manipulation. Let us give no pretext for the self-proclaimed power to seek support for foreign intervention.
We strongly condemn the violation by the United Nations of its own democratic charter. The special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, Madame Lalime, supports a former Prime Minister-ai-de facto-revoked, who hastened to seize a power that no one granted to him. Furthermore, no investigation had yet been initiated regarding the assassination of the deceased president who had just dismissed him.
Haitian people
We appeal to all forces of change to build a solid, determined and committed block in the construction of a country where we can live in dignity, with respect for others and for life, in security.
Only this solid bloc, at this moment of historic unity, can allow us to assume the destiny of our country as a sovereign people. We who sign this press release, are taking our responsibilities. We declare the permanence for the organization as soon as possible of a political conference which will have to bring together all the active forces of the nation to find a national agreement to resolve the crisis. We are starting to build a broad consensus; it will continue to grow to build a project that embodies the fundamental aspirations of the Haitian people in Haiti and abroad, in the interest of our country, without inequalities. Ethics, honesty, integrity, competence, patriotism, sincerity, are values that guide us to do politics differently.
We ask all the international actors who recognize that it is to the Haitians to solve the problems of Haiti to bring a sincere solidarity for the solution of these problems.
The solution of the crisis is near. It depends on all of us Haitians, we carry it together. The victory will be everyone’s.
Long live Haiti
